Suggested Areas of Improvement

Improvements of the current system

To prevent natural disasters, the government should strengthen the construction standards of dams and embankments in case of increased a localized heavy rain. According to the news over the past 3 years after the Four Rivers Refurnishment Project has been completed, the project seemed not yet to be as successful as it was originally planned to be. The biggest critism that rose over the past three years were the changes in the water ecosystem (such as increase algae blooms) and higher costs after severe rains due to the repairing of damaged constructions that were made during the project. However the situation could be improved by modification. Based on the knowledge obtained by researchers' researching of the major rivers of the Korean peninsula that have been made once, the government can carefully evaluate the causes of the failures to provide a more effective way of treating the precipitation pattern change of the Korean penninsula.

Other Suggested Methods?

The government should secure the low-current areas and limit the development of areas with the possibility of flooding.

Also, there is no technology to predict local torrential rainfalls yet. This area needs improvement as well.
