Climate Change Monitoring and Forecasting

Climate change monitoring and forecasting is done by the Korean Meteorological Administration(KMA), which observes and detects the changes in the water system. The KMA also puts efforts on methods of improving predictions of climate change.

With the predicted data, the KMA provides warnings of high-precipitation and forecasts mass media and on its website.

Similiarly to foreign systems of evaluating the change in environmental systems such as the IPCC, WCRP, and IGBP, the Korean Ministry of Environment, KMA, and the National Institute of Environmental Research have joined together to create the Korean Climate Change Assessment  Report of 2014. This Assesment Report provides comprehensive data of the climate change of Korea, including the precipitation changes, and suggests areas of improvement in climate policies of mitigation and adaptation.

There are many institutions and departments that work towards the mitigation of greenhouse gases and aerosols, such as the Committee on Climate Change, and the Special Committee for Climate Change.

However, currently there is a lack of a well-defined theory of the impacts of the carbon cycle, aerosols, and the circulation of the deep water currents with climate change including precipitation changes. Also the interaction and mechanisms of the hydrometeorology cycles still need much careful examination.
